Good Shepherd Health System (GSHS), a two-hospital nonprofit health system based in Longview, TX, has joined CHRISTUS Health, a Catholic nonprofit health system headquartered in Dallas. GSHS will become an important center for care delivery in CHRISTUS’s rapidly-growing East Texas region. A notable feature of the transaction is that CHRISTUS will assume GSHS’s lease with Gregg County.
Juniper was engaged by the GSHS Board of Directors to conduct a strategic partnership exploration process aimed at helping GSHS to continue delivering on its mission as a community-based health system. The competitive process conducted by Juniper elicited a variety of structural alternatives from both nonprofit and investor-owned companies and allowed the Board and management to make a sound decision based upon their goals for the system and the communities that GSHS serves.
