Methodist Hospitals, a two-hospital nonprofit system in northwest Indiana, has signed a Letter of Intent to join Franciscan Health, a 14-hospital nonprofit system stretching from Indianapolis to southern Chicagoland. The transaction will fuel new healthcare investments in northwest Indiana, including the communities of Gary and Merrillville. Combined, the two systems will enhance patient services, improve quality, and lower costs throughout the region to continue delivering on the systems’ shared mission to provide exceptional care to the communities they serve.

Juniper’s Role
Juniper assisted the Board of Methodist in completing a thorough consideration of the system’s strategic positioning. Following this assessment, the Board began a careful consideration of potential partners and partnership structures that would align with the system’s long-term strategic goals. These goals included finding a partner that would help Methodist to address the clinical and financial consequences of the shift to population health management and risk-based contracting. Juniper will continue to advise the Board and management through the completion of due diligence, the signing of the definitive agreement, and acquisition of all requisite regulatory approvals.
